Way of Infinite Harmony
Spreading the message of Her Holiness Princess Ma Gu

Who Is Ma Gu?

Ma Gu, Hemp Maiden (sometimes written Ma Ku) is the Taoist Goddess of Hemp. One of her most often used names is Princess Ma Gu, Goddess of Hemp.

In 1116, Emperor Hui Zong gave her the title of Immortal Xu Miao (Infinite Harmony). The only known temple dedicated to her that has survived the Cultural Revolution in China is in Yue Gu Temple complex, Yantai, Shangdong Province, China. This is the place where Ma Gu practiced and attained immortality. Her tomb is also at the same complex.

Ma Gu is often depicted flying on a crane, riding a deer or holding peaches or wine (symbols of longevity).

She has the forever youthful appearance of an eighteen year old girl though her actual age is infinite. Ma Gu has seen the Eastern sea transform many times, each transformation said to take thousands of years.

Before becoming immortal she freed slaves who were working for her evil father by showing them how to farm land reclaimed from the sea. Devotees celebrate Ma Gu’s birthday on the 6th day of the 6th lunar month.
