Mantras

Magu Xian Shou

For thousands of years devotees have been reciting Magu’s mantra as part of there meditation practices. Her Holiness’s mantra is:

Magu Xian Shou

麻姑獻壽

Which translates as Magu Offers Longevity, however this simple translation does not do justice to the many layers of meaning contained within these 4 sacred characters. These words are so sacred that when spoken aloud or in the mind, read (from a book, a carving, or even a website) they will assist in our spiritual development. The mantra was created when Magu gave the Queen Mother of the West wine She had made resulting in the Queen Mother saying this mantra for the first time.

In addition to the traditional mantra devotees may chant the sacred syllable Om (Chinese: 唵, Sanskrit: ॐ)

Om

唵

Om (or Aum) is said by devotees due to Ganesh (the three legged elephant-ape-man from the Scriptures) being the personification of the sacred sound.

Devotees will typically count there mantras using malas of 18, 27, 54 or 108 beads. Malas can be made from a vast array of different materials ranging from simple wood to rare and exotic crystals and precious stones. The most highly prized by Maguists, however, are those made with lotus seeds. Lotus seeds are prized by devotees due to the dream Magu’s father had the night before She was born.

Devotees will often use both popular Maguist mantras by beginning and ending a meditation session with Om and using Magu Xian Shou for the bulk of the session.
